working to understand...
SOCE
GICE
What’s the difference? And why do we care?
Often headlines related to gender and sexuality issues in the broader culture are just confusing. Especially when you mix in legislation, public opinion related to various types of therapy, and the pile of acronyms.
When I am wanting a really in-depth explanation, I turn one of two places: Mark Yarhouse or Preston Sprinkle.
Mark Yarhouse is a clinical psychologist who specializes in conflicts tied to religious identity and sexual and gender identity. He assists people who are navigating the complex relationship between their sexual or gender identity and Christian faith. Mark explains to me the psychology of what I see around me so that I can better understand the people the Lord puts in my path.
Preston Sprinkle is a biblical scholar, speaker, and serves as the president of The Center for Faith, Sexuality & Gender. Preston takes apart biblical passages, explains roots and meanings, and helps sort through confusion. He also does a great job at navigating through current events, legislation, and topics that make my head hurt!
Today, I read his blog post on explaining the difference between SOCE and GICE- confusing, right?! It seemed good just to forward this blog onto you and encourage you to check out his site.
Why? Perhaps you are wondering. Because understanding language matters when I’m trying to navigate relationships and understanding people.
And people are the bottom line- loving people and loving God.
Check this post out and let me know what you think! Was it helpful or more confusing.
